Early Spring Migration at Letort Spring Garden Preserve

This was our very first organized walk as The Bird Guy Tours as well as our first collaboration with South Middleton Township and the Central Pennsylvania Conservancy.

The morning consisted of rain right up until we started walking. But that didn't stop eight eager birders from taking the chance of finding some early spring arrivals.

Despite the weather, the birds were singing and ready to put on a show.

The usual suspects were plentiful like the American Robin, Red-winged Blackbird, and the Song Sparrow. While some of the expected never came out to play like the Eastern Phoebe, Fish Crow, Common Grackle, and the Northern Mockingbird.

The highlight of the day was the Palm Warbler with some other honorable mentions like the Common Raven, Barn Swallow, and Ruby-crowned Kinglet.

Our total species count was 36. Not bad despite not seeing some of our most common species.

The full trip report can be found on eBird; https://ebird.org/checklist/S133833237

The next free walk is on 16 April 2023 at the Craighead House.
